Each of the following pieces demands heightened attention and a bit of time to listen in peace. – AYANNA WITTER‑JOHNSON blends her cello with jazz/soul alternatives. – ARON! may look innocently into the camera, but there’s plenty going on behind the scenes — at least a light, easy interplay of pop and jazz. – Meanwhile KURENA ISHIKAWA, with her big bass and singing in Japanese, draws a sweeping sonic arc. Her superb interpretation of Minnie Riperton’s “Les Fleurs” adds a wonderful breeze to it all. – Even more soul — with hip hop and just as much jazz — defines the terrain on which ZACCHAE’US PAUL lets his songs unfold through “Stay”.
