n the mood for some colourful tunes again? I didn\u2019t expect anything else from you. And surely neither did you \u2013 because who would suspect pure soul hiding behind the SonicSoul disguise? Instead, we get jazz, pop, folk, and something in between, before, beneath, and all over the place. Right in the middle of it all, navigating these vast thematic worlds with effortless intuition, is JORDAN RAKEI<\/strong>.
Ahead of an upcoming collaborative EP, he\u2019s now sharing his own idea of jazz. Together with saxophonist Nubya Garcia, he heads off across rough terrain \u2013 a six\u2011minute excursion where every second counts. The album is bound to be remarkable.
More jazz follows, again from a rather unexpected source. FLE<\/strong>A is actually the bassist of a well\u2011known rock combo from California, one that once managed to impress George Clinton himself. Yet inside this bassist\u2019s chest has always beaten the heart of a trumpeter, one with a deep affection for jazz. And so \u2013 \u201cHonara\u201d is jazz under the influence. From everywhere and nowhere. Independent, and on its own path. Absolutely worth hearing \u2013 even though here we focus on the success of \u201cWichita Lineman\u201d (a SonicSoul all\u2011time favourite), to which none other than Nick Cave contributes a particularly moving performance. Oh yes \u2013 George is honoured as well, through a nod to \u201cMaggot Brain.\u201d
And again, jazz appears \u2013 in reduced hints, but still. Alongside genre\u2011free music\u2011making somewhere between alternative soul, mature pop, and whatever else can be found along the roadside. FREYA ROY <\/strong>and MAYA LAW<\/strong> are the \u201cGirlfriends\u201d in question, and their development is worth keeping an eye on.
TOM MISCH<\/strong> has played all kinds of guitars. Most memorably within the trio he shares with Yussef Dayes and Rocco Palladino. To the powerhouse that is \u201cWhat Kinda Music,\u201d he now offers the gentle sound of \u201cFull Circle.\u201d Fine guitar tones, soft\u2011hued soundscapes around them, and melodies and structures that always leave room for discovery. A personal affair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mal wieder ein paar farbenfrohe Musiken gef\u00e4llig? H\u00e4tte ich jetzt auch nicht anders erwartet. Und ihr sicherlich auch nicht – denn wer vermutet schon Soul-Soul hinter der SonicSoul-Verkleidung? Stattdessen Jazz, Pop, Folk und irgendetwas dazwischen, davor und drunter und dr\u00fcber. Mitten drin agiert mit sicherem Gesp\u00fcr f\u00fcr die Weite der Themenwelten der JORDAN RAKEI<\/strong>. In Vorbereitung einer bevorstehenden Ver\u00f6ffentlichung einer Kollab-EP gibt’s jetzt seine Idee von Jazz. Gemeinsam mit Saxofonistin NUBYA GARCIA<\/strong> geht’s \u00fcber Stock und Stein – ein 6-Minuten Ausflug, jede Sekunde lohnt. Das Album wird sicher bemerkenswert! – Mehr mit Jazz, ebenfalls aus eher unerwarteter Quelle. FLEA <\/strong>spielt eigentlich den Bass bei einer bekannten Rock-Combo aus Kalifornien, die einst auch den George Clinton beeindrucken durfte. Dabei schlug in der Bassisten-Brust stets das Herz des Trompeters, dem der Jazz ans selbige gewachsen schien. Nun denn – „Honara“ ist Jazz unter Einfluss. Von all\u00fcberall und nirgends. Eigenst\u00e4ndig, und auf eigenen Wegen. Absoulut h\u00f6renswert – auch wenn wir an dieser Stelle uns auf das Gelingen des „Wichita Lineman“ (SonicSoul Alltime-Favorite) fokussieren, zu dem ausgerechnet Nick Cave mittels besonders ber\u00fchrender Vorstellung entscheidend beitr\u00e4gt. Ach ja – dem George wird mittels „Maggot Brain“ ebenfalls Referenz erwiesen. – Auch mit Jazz, in reduzierten Andeutungen, aber immerhin. Dazu genrebefreites Musizieren zwischen alternativem Soul, erwachsenem Pop und was sich sonst noch so am Wegesrand befindet. FREYA ROY<\/strong> und MAYA LAW<\/strong> sind die „Girlfriends“, um die es geht, und deren Werdegang gilt es zu beachten. – TOM MISCH<\/strong> spielte schon die unterschiedlichsten Gitarren. Besonders nachdr\u00fccklich innerhalb des gemeinsamen Trios mit Yussef Dayes und Rocco Palladino . Dem „What Kinda Music“ Kraftpaket stellt er jetzt seinen „Full Circle“ Sanftmut-Sound entgegen. Feine Gitarren-Sounds, weichget\u00f6nte Soundscapes drumherum, dazu Melodien und Strukturen, die immer Raum f\u00fcr Entdeckungen lassen. Privatsache. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
