And various other displeasures.
„To Whom It May Concern“ demands your attention. Not only because, after years of JILL SCOTT abstinence, there’s finally a full new album sitting on the shelf again, but also because the very first bars clear the air. “Dope Shit”—nothing more, nothing less. Ms. Scott is still firmly in command. R&B – Hip-hop – Funk – Soul. Add a few casually scattered dance beats or a brilliant retro blues‑jazz excursion. Old school schooling, new class.
— Different topic, no less impressive.
MOMOKO GILL plays drums, writes and produces her own songs, and sings on top of it all. Recently with Matthew Herbert, or together with Alabaster DePlume or Tirzah. Sounds off the center line. As a current snapshot of Momoko’s ongoing musical investigations, we take her newly released debut under her own name. Something with jazz, but always crafted entirely in her own way. Don’t miss it.
— Continuing with women and their own compass.
We know SELAH SUE from Belgium through various soul‑pop fusions that have certainly left an impression. Her current project goes far beyond that, because the father‑son duo THE GALLANDS play with jazz and funk, electronics and acoustics, beats and grooves—and now also with, and for, Selah Sue. “Another Way” is an excellent entry point into the trio’s program. Album coming soon.
— If we’re going conventional soul, then with BABY ROSE.
Together with LEON THOMAS (freshly Grammy‑decorated for “Mutt,” also with support from Baby Rose…), she gives us the slow‑burner we especially need on cold nights. Pouring oil onto the “Friends Again” soul‑fire are, among others, Messrs. Brenneck, Guy, and Michels from the Daptone label.

—————————————————————————————————————

Zwischen Fastnacht und Konferenz. Und sonstigem Missvergnügen. „To Whom It May Concern“ verlangt eure Aufmerksamkeit. Album folgt alsbald. Öl ins „Friends Again“ Soul-Feuer gießen dabei i.a. die Herren Brenneck, Guy und Michels vom Daptone Label.

Between carnival season and conference time.
