Fresh off the press: the new single from MAMAS GUN<\/strong>, for example. Naturally with that certain something extra. Jazz and soul and pop, and somewhere in there also a fine feel for funk. The melody works, the production is perfectly cushioned, and on top of that there\u2019s a subtle hint of Steely Dan rising up from below. Contributing musician Brian Jackson keeps a low profile, but to great effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, this is no comparison to his own new single, once again recorded in close collaboration with MASTERS AT WORK<\/strong>. A very lively version of the Gil Scott-Heron classic \u201cLady Day\u2026\u201d<\/em>, which also features one of RAHSAAN PATTERSON\u2019s<\/strong> rare guest appearances. The archive is always well stocked \u2014 and, moreover, consistently guided by a knack for giving the \u201cright\u201d classic a fresh coat of paint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After his recently released \u201cRare Groove Spectrum Vol. 3\u201d<\/em>, LANCE ARMSTRONG<\/strong> already has another ace up his sleeve. \u201cCold Bear\u201d<\/em> (originally by The Gaturs) fits the current big-picture climate perfectly and willingly cranks up the heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cut from similar cloth, yet entirely different, is NICK MARKS<\/strong>. He manages to give his soul-jazz-funk gumbo \u201cOui Chef!\u201d<\/em> a few decisive extra edges and corners along the way. One that can be rediscovered again and again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Der mitwirkende Brian Jackson agiert eher unauff\u00e4llig, aber effektiv. – Nat\u00fcrlich kein Vergleich zu seiner eigenen neuen Single, die wieder in enger Zusammenarbeit mit den MASTERS AT WORK<\/strong> eingespielt wurde. Ganz flotte Version des Gil Scott-Heron Klassikers „Lady Day…“, bei der zudem RAHSAAN PATTERSON<\/strong> einen seiner seltenen Auftritte hat – Das Archiv stets gut gef\u00fcllt, und noch dazu immer mit dem Gesp\u00fcr dem „richtigen“ Klassiker einen frischen Anstrich zu verpassen. LANCE ARMSTRONG<\/strong> hat nach seinem erst j\u00fcngst erschienenen „Rare Groove Spectrum Vol. 3“ schon wieder ein As im \u00c4rmel. Der „Cold Bear“ (im Original von den Gaturs) passt ausgezeichneten zur aktuellen Gr0\u00dfwetterlage und sorgt freiwillig f\u00fcr eine aufgeheizte Stimmungslage. – Aus \u00e4hnlichem Holz ist auch der NICK MARKS<\/strong> geschnitzt. Und doch ganz anders, vermag er doch seinem Soul-Jazz-Funk-Gumbo „Oui Chef! noch ein paar entscheidende Ecken und Kanten mit auf den Weg geben. Kann immer wieder neu entdeckt werden!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
